[past] introduction to video art with obs

This workshop covers the fundamentals of using the free software OBS as a live video art performance tool. We will look at various ways in which we can mis-use OBS for video synthesis and video feedback.

Over the course of 4 sessions we will cover the following topics

Folks with any level of experience are welcome to sign up, this class will offer something to folks who are super familiar with obs and folks who have never used it before, it’ll offer something to folks with years of experience using video mixers and video oscillators and something to folks who’ve never tried out video synthesis or video feedback before!

This class will not be so much about the nitty gritty of working with obs as it is about techniques and concepts that will be useful for general video synthesis and video feedback applications. Please be willing to do a little bit of work on your own time to get familiar with the basics of obs and throughout the class if there’s more technical obs specific stuff you have questions about!

You will need to have a computer with the most recent version of OBS installed and an external ubs webcam. Something like this logitech c270 is absolutely perfect and really really nice for feedback. Try not to get too clever or cheap here, using stuff like some kind of ndi phone camera sharing app or a capture card along with some kind of analog/digital camera is pretty highly discouraged for this class (though no reason not to experiment on your own outside if class if you are so inclined).

We Will Not be talking about how to capture analog video into obs.

Each online only session will be about 90 minutes long. Classes will be recorded and archived, however this is primarily to serve as a reference, not as a replacement for attending the live sessions. All students are expected to have cameras and microphones on and be ready and willing to contribute when class is in session. If you have any questions please contact ex.zee.ex @ gmail.com.
